Crank the gain up with a compressor or utility plug-in (I use Sonalksis Free G to boost the gain) and reshape the waveform, which gives loads of interesting harmonics. Lately I've really enjoyed manually clipping my bass sounds in FL's mixer and resampling. I find it gives me the results very quickly, and I (for the most part) prefer Trash's algorithms to those in Ohmicide.
incredibly versatile, it contains various filters and speaker/cabinet emulations. I like the "auto" switch that automatically reduces the output level as the gain is increased, so it's super easy to find the sweet spot. As far as sound quality is concerned, it's top notch. But once I got feel for the different algorithms, and tried it out on multiple sources, it really started to shine.
It's one of those plug-ins that, at first I wasn't so crazy about.
